BHL only considers monetary grants to registered
charities. Funding emphasis is placed on proposals for direct support
of organisations that address improvement of health and human services,
particularly to children and their families.
What we fund
Priority is given to:
- National projects
- Projects/organisations that serve a broad sector of the community
- Organisations that provide direct services to all Barbadians
- Projects/organisations with a proven record of success
Funding for other types of programmes and projects is limited.
Programme limitations – What we will not fund
We refrain from support in the form of,
- Door prizes, gift certificates or other giveaways
- Merchandise donations
We will also usually not fund:
- Individuals (including family reunions)
- Individual student exchange/travel programmes
- Pilot projects
- Film and video projects
- Research projects
- Graduations and PTAs
Under specific circumstances, we will consider the following:
- Journals or programmes advertising or supporting approved projects
- Sports teams
- Religious organisations, if the project benefits the entire
community
- Membership organisations, if the project benefits the entire
community
- Conferences and seminars targeting approved issues
- Fundraising dinners
- Higher education institutions
Submitting a Proposal
All requests must be in writing. Phone solicitations are not accepted.
If your organisation meets the indicated criteria and you wish to
submit a project for which you are seeking assistance, you must
submit a Contributions Proposal.
The Contributions Proposal includes:
A cover letter detailing:
- The mission of the organisation
- The legal name of the organisation
- The grant amount requested
- The purpose of the grant
The proposal must provide the following information:
- A one-page summary description of the entire proposal
- Mission of the organisation
- History of the organisation
- Need for the project
- Project description
- Audience served
- Goals, objectives and action plan
- Expected quantifiable outcomes or results
Attachments must include:
- Financial information (the most recent financial statement,
income and expense budget, and a list of other current and projected
sources of funding for the project
- A list of Board of Directors and their affiliations
Proposals are accepted year-round. Please provide as much notice
as possible between the time of the request and the actual need
for funding. The Company’s fiscal year runs September 1 to
August 31.
If BHL thinks that your project might meet the criteria
you will be contacted to provide additional information.
