Belief in the power of sports
We believe in the power of sports and its positive impact especially on young people and their communities. Our subsidiaries' excellent record in this area, received national recognition when BHL was named Outstanding Sponsor by the Barbados National Sports Council in its 2005 awards.
Our support goes to the heart of the sporting community whether the discipline is cricket, football, athletics, road, table or lawn tennis; golf, hearts, darts, dominoes, draughts, pool, rallying, karting, hockey, netball, basketball, swimming, cycling, yachting, horse racing… Our wide portfolio of support includes:
Cricket - our commitment is strong
Our commitment to the national sport of Barbados is strong - Banks holding the flag high. The relationship between Banks and cricket goes way back - almost to the Company's inception when the Banks Sports and Cultural Club, then largely a cricketing entity, was established. The Brewery can boast of having played a role in the careers of many of Barbados' great cricketers including The Rev. Wes Hall, Vanburn Holder, Gordon Greenidge, Desmond Haynes, Malcolm Marshall and Sir Garfield Sobers. Today our sponsorship impacts youth, local, regional and international cricket. It includes support of the Sir Garfield Sobers' International Schools' Cricket Tournament, the Legends/ Banks Division One Cricket Competition and Test Cricket.
School sports - where it is critical
We also help in the development of sports where it is most critical - in the schools, both at the primary and secondary levels, assisting such important programmes as the PLUS/ Coca-Cola Secondary Athletics Championship, the Regional School Inter-School Relay Meet, the Pine Hill Dairy Primary Schools Netball Competition, and the Tiger Malt Football Competition.
Our Companies are honoured to have been associated with scholarships/sponsorships to many athletes, prominent in this area, our sponsorship (by Plus) of Barbados Olympics bronze medal-winner and Goodwill Ambassador Obadale Thompson.
Hockey Festival: For over two decades we have been an integral part of the Banks Hockey Festival a major Barbadian sports/tourism event which brings together teams from the region and as far afield as the USA, and Europe. The last festival saw the participation of over 50 local, regional and international teams.
Regional special events: Our participation in regional events includes The Pine Hill Dairy Fun Walk, St. Lucia, The Pine Hill Dairy Fun Walk, St. Vincent; and in Tobago the exotic - goat racing.
