BBC captures GOLD Award

TUESDAY, AUGUST 11th

THE BARBADOS BOTTLING CO. LTD. (BBC) recently received the Gold Award in the Labour Department’s “A Commitment to improving our Nation” (ACTION) programme for safety and health at work.

Five companies participated in the pilot phase of the ACTION programme but BBC was the lone company to receive the GOLD award which was received as a result of an audit conducted by the Labour Department in January of 2014. The audit showed that BBC is 95% compliant with the Safety and Health at Work Act and has 95% operability of the safety and health Management System.

Kelly-Ann Knight, Health, Safety, Environmental and Energy Officer, BBC noted that safety and health excellence is embedded in BBC’s workplace culture.

“Our employees champion safety and health every day. If an organisation does not have the safety and health champions and individuals driving the system, this can allow for complacency. However, that is not the case at BBC. This, coupled with our adherence to strict international standards ensures that we lead in this area.”

Errol Goodridge, Safety and Health Officer within the Labour Department praised BBC for their achievement and noted that other companies should seek to follow suit.

“I wish to congratulate the BBC team. Overall, safety and health has many benefits to our nation. It can increase productivity and reduce burden on the social services. When a company decides to commit to safety and health, it not only affects the bottom-line but contributes to the overall development of the nation and its productivity.”

The Barbados Bottling Co. Ltd. is Barbados’ leading soft drink manufacturer and part of the BHL Group of Companies.
