PINEHILL Launches Essay and Design Competition

September 30, 2016

PINEHILL IS hoping to inspire students into developing a love for writing and drawing.

Barbados’ sole dairy processor has, for the fourth straight year, launched its essay writing and design competition. The competition is launched on World School Milk Day – an initiative of the Food and Agriculture Association of the United Nations which is celebrated annually on the last Wednesday of September.

The competition is open to primary schools across Barbados and this year, students will have the opportunity to expound on the topic “Milk Saves the Day.”

Shari Boyce, Category Manager, PINEHILL, said since the competition was conceptualized, the caliber of entries continues to improve.

“Every year, the PINEHILL team has the difficult task of choosing a winning entry from the exceptional submissions received. The entries continue to improve year on year and so our aim of unlocking creativity and a passion for writing is certainly being achieved.”

She also praised the work of the teachers in assisting the students in preparing for the competition.

“We have been able to see firsthand how dedicated the teachers are; during our presentations, they are always as excited as the children to celebrate the achievement of winning. Last year all of our winners hailed from the public school system which is a testament to the skills and commitment of the outstanding teachers there. As it relates to the essay component of the competition, it is an honor to be able to do our part in helping to ensure that students, through their writing not only help to preserve, but have a knowledge of the English Language.”

Four children from classes 1 to 4 will each win a tablet and one thousand dollars for their school in the essay competition while the winner of the design competition will have their artwork featured on specific PINEHILL packaging for one year. Last year’s winners hailed from The People’s Cathedral, All Saints’, St. Stephen’s, St. Alban’s and St. Matthew’s primary schools.

Official competition rules and details on entry are available via PINEHILL’s website www.thepinehilldairy.com as well as on activity sheets which have been distributed to all primary schools.

The Pine Hill Dairy is a subsidiary of the BHL Group of Companies which also comprises the Barbados Bottling Co. Ltd., Banks (Barbados) Breweries Ltd. and Banks Distribution Ltd. The BHL Group is a subsidiary of Ambev.
